Infrared Signature Analyst / Design Engineer

Job # 1080b

IR signature analysis and design related to aircraft exhaust systems. 

M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering.  

  • Strong background in heat transfer, in particular, radiative and convective heat transfer. 

  • Background in compressible flow.

  • Develop suppression systems for advanced military fighters and transports, effectively using both empirical and historical results, when available, to guide design. 

  • Create computational grids, and post-process results using proprietary and/or other standard analytical tools. 

  • Work may include application of commercial CFD codes. 

  • Participate in lab-based and full-scale engine testing activities to validate predictions or otherwise assist in Infrared suppresser design.

2-10 yrs of experience with thermal and/or IR design activity, preferably involving Monte-Carlo code application. 

  • Preference given to those with practical suppression design experience.  CAD-related capability (Unigraphics or CATIA preferred). 

  • Ability to program in FORTRAN and/or C++ a plus. 

  • Familiarity with IR-related testing, with demonstrated ability to link empirical results with analysis. 

  • Active DoD SECRET clearance at a minimum, with active SAR clearance preferred.  Must be able to get a TS clearance. 

  • Candidates with peer-reviewed publications and/or multiple conference presentations desired. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required, with Microsoft Office (specifically, PowerPoint) familiarity.

Infrared signature designer / Analyst

Job # 1080

The candidate would be involved with signature predictions and using signature data to support/validate those predictions.  

We are in need of a Senior Research Engineer  to perform Infrared signature analysis and design related to aircraft exhaust systems, using Monte-Carlo codes.   Create computational grids, and post-process results using ours and/or other standard analytical tools.  Work will likely include application of commercial CFD codes.  Participation in testing activity to validate predictions or otherwise assist in IR suppresser design.

We will require an active DoD SECRET clearance at a minimum, with active SAR (special access) clearance preferred.

3-5 yrs minimum experience with Monte-Carlo code calculations.  Preference given to those with aircraft exhaust-system suppression design experience.  CAD-related capability (Unigraphics or CATIA preferred). 

Ability to program in FORTRAN and/or C++ a plus.  Familiarity with IR-related testing, with demonstrated ability to link empirical radiometric results with IR analysis.  Must be able to get a TS clearance. 

Candidates with peer-reviewed publications and/or multiple conference presentations desired.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills required, with Microsoft Office (specifically, PowerPoint) familiarity. 

Ability to travel 3-5 times/yr within U.S. 

A Masters or Ph.D. degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering is required, coupled with a strong background in heat transfer, in particular, radiative and convective heat transfer.  

Background in compressible flow.

Strongest consideration will be given to those candidates with demonstrated ability to (a) work with teams, in a classified environment; (b) use first-order estimates to guide detailed design; (c) work within budget and schedule constraints; (d) develop novel approaches to solve difficult problems; (e) multi-task, and (f) develop effective data-based arguments to support technical conclusions and recommendations.  The successful candidate will have flexible work hours for the infrequent times this is required.
